TRADE: Michael Del Zotto for Kevin Klein
Big news coming out of the Big Apple today, as the Rangers announced they've traded D Michael Del Zotto to the Nashville Predators for D Kevin Klein. On the outside, this isn't a trade that makes a lot of sense to me. What the Rangers would want with a past-his-prime defenseman like Klein is beyond me. They had a perfectly good young D-man in Del Zotto, but chose to trade him for somebody who puts up, at best, 20 point seasons. Del Zotto is young, and has room to grow. Him playing alongside Dan Girardi or Ryan McDonough made up one of the East's most dangerous defensive pairings. It seems like the New York gave up on Del Zotto after one bad season, which is a bad characteristic for a general manager to have. One bad season does not mean a bad player, everybody slumps at some point. The Predators were so lucky on this deal, they may just find the pot at the end of the rainbow tomorrow. Del Zotto will fit in well with Seth Jones and Ryan Ellis. A pairing with Shea Weber may not be out of the question either. Anyhow, the Blueshirts need to start making smarter trades, and fast.
